Chapter 1
She can't see anything. It's as if someone deliberately turned off all the streetlights, leaving the street in a thick, viscous darkness. A drizzle is falling — fine, sticky, and nasty, as if specifically designed to get under her skin. Jessica squeezes through the narrow gap between the rusty fence and the damp wall, scraping against the rough metal. Her heart is pounding so loudly it seems the whole street can hear it.
Finally, she makes it outside. Exhale... But at that very moment, a deafening roar of tires on wet asphalt is heard. The bright headlights shine right into her eyes, followed by bursts of machine gun fire. It feels like this is the end... Everything she's done has been for nothing...
